New Life Now Warriors Volleyball
The New Life Now Warriors Volleyball team started out as a group of friends who got together on the weekends to play outdoor volleyball at Seward Park back in the summer of 2008. As the weather became cooler we were able to secure a location for volleyball at the P.S. 2 gym on Henry Street with the gracious support of the New Life Now Church. Soon after, we had an idea, a vision to create a team that invited the youth from the community to play volleyball. It has been years since that fateful day, and the NLN Warriors Volleyball team is now comprised of over 100 members and is still growing.
Practices are held every Sunday from 8AM-5PM. Activities are led by our coaches to incorporate the fundamental skills of volleyball to each member. Scrimmages are held at the end of the day against one another and the members are encouraged to support one another despite their differences in play level. The practices are designed to teach good sportsmanship, teamwork, communication, discipline, and encouragement to each other. They also complete assignments to evaluate their own and their team’s progress and to demonstrate what it means to be a Warrior. Friendly scrimmages against outside teams such as OCM, CUMC, GFC, CEMC and various high school teams are held to allow the team to demonstrate their skills and to promote fellowship. The team has also participated in tournaments such as NYMini, Philly Mini, VBLI, the NY Urban Professionals Volleyball league, Running Roots, the Alfred Smith Outdoor tournament, Spike for Cambodia, and the Vanderbilt YMCA tournament.
Not only that, the NLN Warriors have also make some incredible progress hosting our own tournaments in the last few years, bring 100s of teams from the area and uniting their passion to play triples, sixes, and our very own quints!
The NLN Warriors are not only involved in playing volleyball, but they are also involved with community service throughout the year. They have participated in delivering care packages to the homeless with the NLN Action Seekers, a shoe box drive for Haiti, and the Joyful News Festival. They continue to lend a hand whenever help is needed. They also attend church services before practice every Sunday to listen the Pastor Kenny’s messages and learn more about God.
Through out the years the kids have bled, sweat, cried, laughed and worked together. To them this has become a second family.
In order to keep this fantastic program going we want to first thank you for your continuing support over the years. This means a lot to us. Currently we are in the process of raising funds to ensure we can maintain the necessary gym space and equipment costs for 2015. Please let us know if you are interested in making a donation.
We thank you for your time and support. See you on the court!
